This farm tour will take an in-depth look at diversified production at a Gibbs Farm in Leavenworth. We’ll also take a close look at the apple industry in Central Washington touring the Stemilt Processing facility and a large organic farm, Kyle Mathison Orchards near Wenatchee.

Farm Tour Schedule — Diversifying Production

About the Farms

Gibbs Farm is a family-owned and operated certified organic farm located in a secluded canyon outside of Leavenworth, WA on the eastern slopes of the Cascades. The 40-acre farm includes eight gardens, five acres of fruit orchard, pastures, a mix of animals and a tree farm. Crops include hay, grains, berries, herbs, and a wide variety of vegetables. The Gibbs family grows heirloom varieties of apples, pears, cherries and also raise cattle and chickens. Gibbs Organic Produce provides high quality organic goods to farmers markets, CSA programs, local restaurants and food co-ops. The Gibbs Farm manages all aspects of its fields, woods and streams as a single integrated system, or permaculture.

Stemilt Growers is a family-owned fruit company that has been in business since 1964. The Mathison family owns and operates Stemilt Growers and proudly grows, packs and ships the best apples, pears, cherries, and summer fruits for you and your family to enjoy. Look behind the scenes and learn Stemilt’s interesting history and unique approach to farming, innovation and sustainability.

Kyle Mathison is a fourth generation grower who passionately farms Stemilt cherries, apples and pears atop Stemilt Hill in Wenatchee, WA – the same locale that his ancestors homesteaded more than a century ago. Kyle gets up each day with one mission in mind: to grow world famous fruit. For Kyle, being world famous is a journey, not a destination. Throughout his journey, Kyle goes above and beyond to ensure that each piece of fruit picked from his trees looks and tastes fantastic. He feeds trees with homemade nutrient-rich compost, plants the right varieties for the right locales, takes great care when harvesting fruit and even watches the lunar calendar in order to produce the most flavorful fruit. He was named Cherry King in 2008 and was OTA’s Organic Grower of the Year in 2013.
