Hot Tips for Shopping at the May Edible Plant Sale

Take a look at some helpful information for maximizing your enjoyment at the sale.

May Edible Plant Sale Shoppers

  • Bring Carriers.
Wagons, boxes, plant flats and friends are all helpful ways to help you carry your plants. We will also be selling plastic plant trays or "flats" at the "Buy a Flat" station near the entry for $1.

  • Pick-up a Wristband in the Morning.
A staggered entry system will allow the maximum number of people to enter the sale and keep the entrance flowing smoothly during the busiest times. Beginning at 8 a.m., you can get an appointed time of entry when you pick up a color-coded wristband in the lower field west of the access road (and bathrooms) at Meridian Park. This will allow you to enjoy the marketplace in the lower field outside of the sale without needing to wait in line. Busiest times are usually Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon and Sunday, 9-10 a.m. Saturday afternoon and Sunday mid-day and later tend to have shorter lines.

  • Travel Smart.
GET DIRECTIONS. Carpool, take a bus (#44 or #62), or use other alternative transportation. You can also take Link Light Rail to the University of Washington station and then take bus #44 to Sunnyside Ave. You can park in the neighborhood around Meridian Park, but it tends to be busy. North of N. 50th St. tends to be less crowded.

  • Leave the Pets Home.
Because of the high volume of people at the event, dogs are not allowed inside the sale. Service animals are permitted.

  • Learn More.
Look for plant info on signs, or ask a plant seller. If you have any questions, ask the garden educators at the Tilth Alliance booth.

  • Stock Up.
Buy a copy of our books Your Farm in the City or the Maritime NW Garden Guide, Seattle Seed seeds and supplies at the Tilth Alliance booth. Cedar Grove compost and potting soil will be available for $6/bag - you can pay at check-out and pick-up your order at the loading zone.

  • Loading Zone.
You may leave your plants at the loading zone in the parking lot of the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave N) and then drive in to pick them up, along with any bags of compost or potting soil you purchased.

  • Dress for the Weather.
Sometimes we get rain, sun, heat or cold at the sale — usually all of them at some point! The event is outdoors. Please dress for the weather.

  • Accessibility.
We have a few handicapped parking spots in the Good Shepherd Center parking lot. There is a paved sidewalk part of the way to the sale. The sale is in a park on grass, which could be challenging for shoppers in wheelchairs, scooters or crutches, especially when wet.

  • Bathrooms.
Bathrooms and port-a-pottys are located at the center of the Meridian Park. Please do not use bathrooms in the Good Shepherd Center. Thank you!
