Mar 31, 2016

After the rainiest winter on record, are you ready for some sunshine and outdoor recreation? Eager to enjoy the fresh and delicious flavors of summer foods? Imagine picking tasty salads, stir frys and fresh fruit smoothies straight from your own garden all summer and fall!

PosterAt Seattle Tilth’s May Edible Plant Sale, you can choose from the largest selection of organically grown edible plants in the region. You'll find vegetables, herbs, fruits and edible flowers, plus pollinator and native plants, seeds and supplies. The May Edible Plant Sale is on Saturday and Sunday, April 30-May 1, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at Meridian Park (4649 Sunnyside Ave. N., Seattle).

This community event features over 70,000 organically or sustainably grown plants that are specially chosen by Seattle Tilth’s experts because they are well-adapted to thrive in our Pacific Northwest climate. Garden and farm educators will be on hand to answer questions about plants, and shoppers can learn organic gardening techniques at gardening presentations.

Shoppers will find:

  • More than 350 plant varieties including many heirlooms and hard-to-find plants
  • Easy plants for beginning gardeners such as lettuces, arugula, kale, Asian greens, strawberries and culinary herbs
  • Favorite summer crops that love full sun such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and melons
  • PlantSaleFriendsFoodie favorites such as sweet and spicy peppers, edible flowers, bulbing fennel, red radicchio, cinnamon basil and purple onions
  • Fruits, glorious fruits: blueberry, raspberry, plum, fig, Asian pear, kiwi and many more
  • Pollinator plants to support the important work of insects and birds

If you want first pick of the plants and to help raise extra funds for Seattle Tilth's farm and garden education programs, buy a ticket to the Early Bird Sale. Also, the event relies on more than 400 volunteers – sign-up to volunteer and attend the Early Bird Sale at no cost.
