March Edible Plant Sale Launches Spring Garden Season

Stock Up on Organic Plants, Supplies and Garden Info at Rainier Beach Urban Farm

Feb 18, 2016

Gardeners love spring! But many wait until May or June to plant, missing several weeks that are perfect for planting. Getting started early increases how much food you can grow and harvest during the year. It’s also an easy time for new gardeners to get started growing their own food successfully.

Seattle Tilth’s March Edible Plant Sale is a great place to kick off gardening season for new and experienced gardeners. This event offers a larges selection of organically and sustainably grown spring edible plant starts, from veggies, herbs and fruits to edible flowers and fruit trees. It’s on Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and this year it's held at Rainier Beach Urban Farm, 5513 S. Cloverdale St.

Dig Into Growing Food
Seattle Tilth is known for its educational programs for adults and kids in sustainable urban agriculture. At this sale, gardening tips will be available on signs, and educators will be available to answer questions -- making it easy for shoppers to make plant selections and learn basic gardening information. Free workshops will inspire new ideas for this year's garden.

11 a.m., Asian Greens: Tasty Tips for a Spicy Mix
Noon, Protect Your Early Crops with Cloches
1 p.m., Perennial Power: Strawberries, Asparagus, Artichokes, Oh My!

Organic gardening supplies will also be available, including compost and potting soil, organic seeds, books and cloche kits.
