Just Garden Project’s Spring into Bed is Transforming the Redmond Community

Apr 25, 2013

On Saturday, May 18, the Just Garden Project will bring people together in Redmond to build ten food gardens for community members with limited financial resources during the fourth annual Spring Into Bed garden building event. Volunteers are needed to assemble garden beds in five backyards and five community centers including Redmond Elementary, Albert Einstein Elementary, and the Redmond YWCA.

The Just Garden Project is a program of Seattle Tilth that works to build a just food system and culture of gardening for all people by building food gardens for families with low-incomes and educating gardeners. These gardens empower families to become self-sufficient, grow their own food and make healthier food choices.Team Garden Build

Sara Sausner, a 2011 garden recipient, explains the impact of a Just Garden, “The excitement of watching the garden grow, harvesting and sharing… has added a richness to our lives that was unexpected. This cycle of health and giving all stems from simply planting a seed.”

Over 50 volunteers are needed to make this event a success – lend a hand and support your community! Email to sign-up to volunteer. We will meet at the Old Firehouse Teen Center in Redmond (16510 NE 79th Street, Redmond) at 10 a.m. and then build gardens until 1 p.m. Afterwards, everyone involved is welcome to attend the community celebration with food, fun and games.
