Puget Sound Fresh Outreach Coordinator

Assist with wetland restoration, including leading weekly to biweekly work parties, with staff and volunteer support, at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. Assist in developing environmental education curriculum for work parties and volunteers, and/or assist in developing an onsite native plant propagation system and education.

Internship Overview

Tilth's mission is to build an ecologically sound, economically viable and socially equitable food system. Puget Sound Fresh, a program of Tilth, provides consumer access and education promoting sustainable agriculture, food and farm products and agri-tourism in Washington State through print, online and mobile resources. This position is key to supporting the economic viability of farms and facilitate healthy eating on a statewide level. The program is considered the leading farm-to-table resource offering comprehensive tools and information to help people make better food choices and find what's fresh, local and in season wherever they live, shop, eat, work and play.

Time Commitment: Flexible weekly commitment

Compensation: This is an unpaid intern position, but can be completed for school credit at some institutions.

Work Site: Tilth’s offices in Wallingford (4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103)

Work Description:

There were be several components. During January, this position will assist with outreach to farms and farmers markets for the annual Farm Guide, which is now in it's 44th year of publication!This position will also help manage content for the Puget Sound Fresh website (Drupal) and mobile app. Assist with building and managing content that includes overall content management, farm profiles, farmers markets listings, recipes and events. The position will also have the opportunity to create new content and give input to how the site might have more functionality.

Additionally, this position will work with farms and farmers markets to secure images, create profiles and generally, learn everything you've ever wanted to know (and more!) about sustainable food and farming in Washington State!

The work environment in our office is friendly and casual. We occasionally have dogs that come by for a visit but not often. It's also an open space, so there is some level of conversation but we are all mindful of our workspace. We are at the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford so an easy access by bus or on foot if you are in the neighborhood. This is also a great opportunity for someone who is interested in learning more about statewide food systems work!

Qualifications:

  • This is a great opportunity for students with a knack for writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of current content.
  • Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions.
  • Eye for detail and top notch organizational skills, ability to work independently.
  • Preferred, but not necessary: Proficiency in Drupal and Google analytics

Impact:

The Puget Sound Fresh website uses curated content, rather than user generated content. Farmers and farmers markets alike depend on this resource to reach consumers and PSF is considered a critical link in the farmer to the consumer "supply chain."

By keeping this information current, this position directly impacts our food supply and supports healthy farms, healthy food and healthy communities around the state. By providing accurate and reliable information, resources, recipes, events and more, we are building direct connections and opportunities for consumers and farmers alike, regardless of zip code or income. Access to healthy, fresh food is a right for all, not a privilege and Puget Sound Fresh provides the link.
