Become a King County Master Recycler Composter!

Seattle Tilth has joined forces with King County to train and manage a team of volunteers for the King County Master Recycler Composter (MRC) program. This program is for King County residents outside of the cities of Seattle and Milton.

Did you know that Americans typically waste about 25 percent of the food they buy, at a cost of $130 every month? Or that uneaten food in landfills is a potent climate change contributor, accounting for 23 percent of all methane emissions in the U.S.?

FTGTW Tabling

If you’re passionate about reducing waste and want to inspire others, join a team of dedicated volunteers who are teaching their communities about curbside composting and recycling, and best practices for preventing edible food from going to waste.

Gain Expertise in Food Waste Prevention, Curbside Composting and Recycling

When you become a King County Master Recycler Composter (MRC), you’ll receive the tools and training you need to help reduce waste in your community. Training topics include:

  • the ins and outs of composting, recycling and solid waste management in King County
  • food waste prevention through smart shopping, storage, preparation and saving
  • effective public outreach and education skills

Share Your Knowledge with Your Community

Volunteers complete a training in early spring, then commit to 25 hours of volunteer service, empowering friends, neighbors and the public to reduce their waste. Our volunteers work in diverse environments including tabling at farmers markets and community festivals and providing outreach in their own communities to encourage behavior change. In addition, volunteers must complete an independent outreach project in their community such as sharing information with coworkers at a lunch presentation or through a workshop with neighbors or friends. Most outreach occurs on weekends and in south King County.
